sharing a wealth of wisdom from real world experiences
Strong leadership and board service both in the private and public sectors, effective and responsible management experience, ability for strategic alliances, coalition building and crisis management, and a steadfast devotion to ethical values, exemplify the private endeavors and public service of Sila M. Calderón, the first and only woman to be elected Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Her high-level executive positions have given her the capacity to consider complex situations from a multiplicity of angles: financial, stakeholders' interests, public perceptions, marketing needs and the competition's position.
In addition, former Governor Calderón has thorough knowledge of the close relationship between government and business; strong connections both in Washington DC and New York, as well as in several Latin American countries; and deep understanding of the ever growing Hispanic markets in the United States and overseas.
Besides serving as Governor, Mrs. Calderón was also Mayor of San Juan, Secretary of State and Secretary of the Governorship. Her board experience includes the New York Public Library, of which she is currently trustee as well as Banco Popular of Puerto Rico and Pueblo International, where she served as independent member. She also chaired the Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation and was member of the board of the Governmental Development Bank. Ms. Calderón has been distinguished with five honorary degrees from mainland universities, and several foreign governments have bestowed upon her their most important civil orders. Currently she serves as president of Inter-American Global Links, Inc. (IGlobaL), a business and trade consulting firm.
